Let Your Writing Impulse Lead You

Christina Askounis, of the creative writing faculty at Duke, is an extraordinary teacher.  I sometimes give out in my workshops copies of a quote from her about following even the faintest glimmer of an idea:

"There is always something: like Blake's golden string, one need only take hold of the end and start to wind it into a ball.  Word follows word, thoughts form themselves, leading us through the labyrinths of our own minds and revealing to us what we did not know we knew until we began to try to say it.

But as if that were not enough, the words proceed from a unique self that often possesses a 'felt sense' of what it wants to say even before it finds the words…."

About Christina's novel, The Dream of the Stone, Madeleine L'Engle says:  "Christina Askounis has written a fantasy with a depth and richness seldom found in a novel for young readers."

Christina is leading a spiritual autobiography class June 1-5 at an oceanfront retreat house on the North Carolina coast.  I highly recommend this experience.

The Sacred Journey:  Writing Your Spiritual Autobiography
June 1-5, Pelican House at Trinity Center, Pine Knoll Shores, NC.

From Christina:  "Join us at the beach!  Come & write in the company of others who desire
to uncover the deeper meaning of their lives.  ….
Swim, stargaze, rest & reflect.  Listen to your life."

The nuts and bolts:  The $540 cost includes
tuition, all meals and your room in the oceanfront Pelican Retreat
House.

The sacred journey, sincerely undertaken, is always a bold move.

This sounds like a fascinating retreat and a beautiful setting.  I am restricted to workshops at the end of a month rather than at the beginning because of my work, but will keep an eye on future opportunities to work with Christina.
