Reckless Little Adventures
Latest bold moves include:
*signing up for a surfing lesson. I've been meaning to do this since I was in the third grade. My lesson will be at Wrightsville Beach, NC. I Googled surfing techniques to prepare for this and learned that it's necessary to do something called a pop-up. This involves lying face-down and getting up by swinging the feet up under the body — i.e. not making an intermediate stop on the knees. I can do one. I was pleased to discover this. But I also realize that more than one will be required. I keep resolving to practice and build up my pop-up capacity; haven't gotten to it yet.
*reading until 2:30 a.m. on a weeknight. Didn't mean to, but I picked up a friend's novel that I was a few dozen pages into and then couldn't bring myself to emerge until I'd finished. The booK: Girl Wonder by Alexa Martin. The main character is a plenty-bright -enough girl, burdened by her family of genius-types, and led interestingly astray by the sizzling high school pals she falls in with. I loved it. Well worth the sleep deprivation. Especially if you're a Sarah Dessen fan, as I am. Never mind that I've been out of high school for 45 years.
*brown-bagging a Coke into an earnestly organic and healthy Whole Foods eatery, in nutritionally correct Chapel Hill, no less. I half-expected sirens to go off when I pulled it out of my pocketbook and set it boldly on the table beside my lunch. There are days when a lady needs her Co'Cola and societal norms cannot be allowed to get in the way.
*got serious about Twitter. Browsing for folks to follow is like shopping for people, and you can have as many as you want. One of my choices: the splendid actor Anthony Hopkins, who says in his profile that he's really too old for this sort of thing but thought he'd give it a try anyway. I think that's rather bold of him. If I haven't found you yet on Twitter, please find me: @peggypayne.
That's all the chutzpah I have to offer for now. More later, of course. I wish you happy adventures.

Peggy, I just read "Revelation," (I know, late to the game), and so the link to your blog on my friend, Sally Buckner's FB. I love it! I will add it to my blog follow list. Gretchen
Never too late to the game, Gretchen. I’m pleased to hear from you, and that you’re putting me on your list. Your garden blog is lovely– you’re also a fine photographer.
Should have proofread that comment… the link caught my attention.
Hi Peggy,
I admire your bold attitude! Especially the part about publicly consuming a Coke in a Whole Foods market! As far as I am concerned, I become far too grumpy if I cannot drink my Coke when and where I would like to. Good for you for doing so with your nice, organic lunch.
Hugs,
Debbie
I’ve been surprised, Debbie, at how many folks identified with the Coke in Whole Foods idea. I had some email and direct responses as well. I find, though, that when I’ve been at that organic spa Rancho La Puerta, I haven’t missed such things at all.
This can be an incredible blog idea, is it possible you be interested in doing an interview about how you created it? If that’s so e-mail me at the address I used for the comment form! Regards. Jennifer
