Wizard Cloaks, Blue Bling
I'm cooking up so many jazzy promotional things to draw attention to Cobalt Blue that I woke up one morning last week and said to myself: Are you out of your mind?
That was the morning after I had hit the costume websites and ordered floor-length cobalt blue hooded cloaks (for the walking advertisers and one for myself of course to wear to and from readings) and the leaping-porpoise cobalt blue car decals to highlight the Crazy Ladies Book Tour car magnet signs. (The porpoises came in the mail today.) This whole thing is starting to feel like trick-or-treating.
Did I say all this here already? or is it just that I told friends at lunch? can't remember.
At any rate, porpoises…. And shiny blue beads, and lots of blue bling. I've always loved costumes. But I've never liked the idea of being the only one in costume.
Once when I was doing a travel story on a cruise, the ship's frolic director announced costume night and lots of costume-making materials were spread out in a lounge. I made myself a terrific mermaid costume, using a bathing suit, a great train of green material with scales drawn on in Magic Marker, some wire hangers to make the fishtail and green body paint.
But when it was time to go put it on, I saw that the event was not to be a costume party, but instead people walking across a stage one at the time, in front of a drinking audience.
Not I. Not even at my brashest.
Never did get to wear that costume. It grieves me.
So my Cobalt Blue reading outfits are my "2nd chance prom." Blue sequins, blue porpoises, the whole nine yards of fabric.
Should you come to a reading of mine –the first is on April 21 at the LA Times Festival of Books, first in my area on April 28 at Raleigh's Quail Ridge Books — feel free to come in costume. So I won't be the only one.

Hmmmm…Will have to start thinking about the possibility of a costume;) You, however, are going to look absolutely fabulous in that dress!!!
Thanks, Debbie. And most anything cobalt blue will do.
Sounds like a lot of fun. Wish I could be there. You are going to look great. Enjoy the bling!
Who knows, Jan? We may turn up in the same city at some point.
Easter Bunny qualify?
Oh, yes, Bob. You have an Easter Bunny costume in waiting?
You are so funny! I'll see if I have anything in blue… LOL!
A sailor like yourself is bound to have something blue.
